Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over his homework for the coming week and dedicated a lot of time to biology. He now understands that section very well."
"In today's lesson, we first reviewed the student's assignments for the last week. I also had him read a short book about civil disobedience, and he is to select one image from the book and write about it by next week. I also had him order a book from the library about Martin Luther King, Jr., which we will discuss in our next lesson. He has a new planner, and we planned out his assignments for this next week."
"Today, we had a somewhat shorter session than usual, because the student has relatively little homework for the upcoming week. At the beginning of the session, we looked over her homework and made a homework plan for the week. Then we looked over the two tests she had taken last week. She has two such assignments to do this week. After going over the tests and the homework plan, we made flashcards to study for her English vocab quiz (Tuesday) and to learn the new French vocabulary due on Tuesday and Friday."
"We reviewed place value up to millions place. I had the student practice saying numbers and discussing place value. She practiced writing in standard form and expanded form. We practiced placing commons to distinguish place value. We reviewed her homework from earlier in the week and made corrections and answered any questions she had about the work from the week. Then we worked on vocabulary and synonyms and antonyms. We reviewed the seven steps to the scientific method."
"We worked on subtraction. This was something that the student's mother mentioned to me. We used Monopoly money to see the physical process of borrowing with subtraction. This makes the math go from being abstract to concrete. We'll continue this process during the next session."
"The student finished his homework. We discussed his upcoming project. We previewed possible science projects. We read three short stories. The school year is starting off well. He finished up all of his homework early."
