Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I used my Geography textbook to review important terms and concepts from Political Geography with her. In class, she said they have been reviewing the different types of government. She said her teacher had already reviewed theocracy and dictatorship. I had her explain these to me and give me examples. Then we discussed communism, both in theory and why its implementation has led to dictatorship, most often. We also discussed some of the political conflicts around the world, especially those that apply to this unit. She was super engaged in this discussion."
"We covered ArcGIS, using the "Intersect" tool and interpreting data, as well as discussing a rough outline of what the student should cover in his report. The student seemed confident in his ability to use ArcGIS and learn new tools, and was mostly concerned about writing the report. We discussed being patient with the software and how to properly save data. I told him to e-mail me his report for a possible follow-up session. I think he'll do well on his project and I am excited to see the results!"
"Today the student needed to review chapter 7, sections 1-5. For this session, we decided to try another note taking method of reading each subsection and creating a practice test question. He always has a positive, cooperative attitude and is willing to try new ideas/strategies that will help him. We have been working on sharpening the student's summarizing skills and asking himself what is important to know for the test and what is not. He is showing positive signs of improvement since we have started. For extra practice, I assigned the remaining sections of chapter 7 for independent work and will examine it next session. The student understands the concept of good note taking, and I would like him to continue working on consistency."
