Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session we finished up chapter one, and now starting to work on Chapter 2. We have been working on speaking, and trying to translate thoughts based on our knowledge in Spanish."
"The pupil needed help studying for a Spanish test on medical vocabulary. After going through the words and having her make flashcards, I quizzed her. With repetition and steady quizzing, she was able to become familiar with the words and recall most of them. We also went over the present subjunctive tense again, making sure she had a good idea of the concepts before her teacher discussed them in class the next day."
"We worked through the teacher-provided study guide. We addressed the differences between affirmative and negative "tu" commands, "Ud.," "Uds.," and "nosotros" command forms. The student was able to produce the conjugations without problem. My greatest concern for him was distinguishing between the forms when not specifically told which one to use. To address this, we talked about looking for the names of the people being spoken to and being careful with word endings. He showed good skill at manipulating the forms and was quick to pick up the mechanics of verb conjugation."
"We spent an hour reviewing chapter 2 in his Spanish textbook. This included conjugations of ser, noun-adjective agreement, and vocabulary. I assisted the student in making on-line flashcards to study for an upcoming exam. For the last 15 minutes, he and his mother asked me to help him with algebra. We did an online practice quiz, which focused on finding slopes."
"We continued to review the verb 'estar' and also looked at the conjugation and use of the verb 'ser'. We discussed how to construct questions and I also began to introduce the vocabulary for time. The student continues to progress rapidly and absorb the material and so I have no concerns."
"The student was nervous about the upcoming exam next Friday. The test covers three long chapters and a lot of vocabulary and grammar sections. We did a quick review of all three chapters, and I pointed out the important characters and grammar for him. He felt more confident about the test after our session and has a clear direction for his preparation."
