Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on her key terms throughout the session. I suggested she create a card for each term, and then group them by relating events, people, and places, and then study these cards each evening for 15 minutes. I also asked if there was a possibility to review the comments made on her essays, and she said she only had 10 minutes to review her graded exams before having to return them to the instructor. I suggested she make note of the comments. Lastly, I suggested that next week we review the academic paper by Haas and Flower called "Rhetorical Reading and the Construction of Meaning." It will help her in this class - and all others."
"The student had a lengthy holiday assignment that required lots of reading and answering of questions. He really wanted to be finished with the work during our time, so we worked at an especially fast pace in this session and got through the material quickly. The chapters covered lots of material about daily life and common people during the 18th century, with an emphasis on the effects of Enlightenment ideas. We finished the questions just in time! He also shared his blackboard grade profile with me and we discussed the details about how we can get him into A range for the semester."
"The student is doing well with her preparation for the AP Art History Exam. We have an AP Art History prep book to use as a guide and we are covering the material that she has not covered in her course with the book as help."
"The student finished a PowerPoint presentation that he worked on last week so we moved on to reviewing Romanesque art (7th c-11th c) for his upcoming AP exam. We had a good discussion on the subject. He is quite conscious of what he needs to know for the exam--at least as far as the AP guide allows--and is motivated to stay on task and proceed. I have no concerns about this session. We will get on to Gothic next week. He has only three more weeks before the anticipated exam."
"I have been advising the student via e-mail for the past few weeks concerning her current graduate course and upcoming research project. She is now preparing to research the required topics, using her instructor's and my recommendations concerning source material, etc."
"Today we covered the development of the US Constitution and discussed the early republic through the Louisiana Purchase. This was a session with a lot of detail, but we were able to cover everything pretty quickly."
