Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over her calculus homework and did some SAT Math prep. The calculus homework dealt with finding the area between two lines. She understood the material after we went over a few problems. We focused on Math 1 since she takes it before the Math 2 test. We worked on problems for about a half hour. She told me she only got one problem wrong on her calculus test last week. She is doing very well in calculus so I would like to spend a little more time working on SAT prep. It would be good for her to start doing practice problems from her books."
"This session, we went over more free-response questions and how to improve his answers. We also did a timed session where he answered the calculator portion of the free-response questions. Next session, I plan on helping him get comfortable with the calculator so that he can solve these problems without much trouble."
"We looked over his project that is due this Friday and then we worked on some challenging homework problems that he was working on. Lastly, I am going to focus on math and geometry by connecting the content to more real-world or word problem scenarios."
"Before today's session I reviewed the student's 7th grade final and saw many of the questions he got wrong were percent, ratio, and proportion problems. So today we focused in on this area. He had some level of difficulty in the beginning, especially with word problems. However I definitely saw an improvement by the end and will continue to work on this unit next session. I think he is almost ready to start focusing a lot more on algebra. I am very confident in this student and am impressed by how quickly he is picking things up."
"Today the student worked on her assignment about factor analysis and reliability statistics. We went over what coefficient is and how to interpret it. Then we ran a factor analysis and interpreted the number of factors, including whether it would best be considered a unidimensional scale (which it wasn't)."
"During this session, a review of algebraic principles covering exponents, distribution, order of operations with variables, and factoring were reviewed to cover weaknesses that may have prevented the student from successfully completing algebra 2 (and even physics). I created practice problems that covered all of the above, and they were completed and reviewed. Additionally, a complex number worksheet was completed and reviewed (including homework and problems for extra practice). Lastly, for physics, scientific notation was reviewed by completing homework problems from a worksheet."
