Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed the second section (of three) of the end-of-course exam for English. We also covered some specific questions (besides vs. beside, towards vs. toward) and did some grammar exercises with Mad Libs."
"I met with Student 1 first today, and we jumped in with her new world atlas. We spent some time talking about the maps and various countries in Western Europe. We spent time talking about the countries and cities on the map. I think it will be important to establish some incentives for Student 1. I will get my hands on some materials to reward her- stickers or else something small. Student 2 and I spent time with the next chapter of the 'Curse of the Baskervilles.' We focused on how Doyle wrote about the 'clues' and 'suspects' so that we learned about them at the same time that Holmes was learning about them. Then I asked her to write a newspaper article about a mystery that would describe the clues and suspects without drawing any conclusions. I left her with an assignment to write another newspaper story about a non-supernatural mystery."
"The student and I spent the session working on her Hemingway essay. She fleshed out the outline into paragraphs, and we looked for quotes to support her points. We then edited the essay and changed anything that didn't work."
