Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered proportionality, looking at percentages of numbers, and also worked on some vocabulary associated with real world percentages, such as taxes and commissions. He was intent on finishing the work and understanding it. I think he could benefit by taking a bit more time when doing his mathematics and patiently working through the problems with a double check after he has finished. We will continue to work on that."
"We were able to get a lot of math done. Most importantly, we solidified the concept of absolute values, which the student was struggling with. She was in good spirits. We were also able to review past assignments, and nail down a few kinds of mistakes. She has been very busy recently, so it's been important for us to shore up what she hasn't been able to get solidly from class."
"The student and I introduced ourselves and briefly talked about some of our hobbies and interests. We went over his Spanish material, what they have already covered, and what he needs help with. He is the most concerned with memorizing the vocabulary and verb tenses and endings. I gave him several tips on ways to study and memorize the material. We reviewed his vocabulary list and talked about his upcoming test. He is very intelligent and I'm confident that if he follows the study tips he will do well and learn Spanish."
"We went over examples of using elimination to solve systems of linear equations; also, I demonstrated the box method for multiplying a binomial and a trinomial. To reinforce the concept of simplifying square roots, I went over an example involving products of numbers inside square roots to show that numbers can be paired and taken out of square roots -- a visual way to simplify radicals."
"We are preparing for the first exam on Monday. The two chapters covered are logic and sets. From the work we did on sets, I have noticed some progress."
"The student started a new unit on graphing rational functions, finding domains/ranges, and vertical and horizontal asymptotes. We reviewed her homework assignment and discussed what asymptotes are and the different characteristics of the horizontal and vertical."
