Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student started with his homework in algebra, and since he didn't have anything due, he did two assignments due Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Topics consisted of polynomials and the addition/ subtraction thereof, as well as the distributive property with polynomials. He had virtually no issue with tackling these and will be suitably ahead of things in his class. We spent the rest of the time reviewing for his upcoming biology test in classical genetics. He had pretty much all the concepts down, and when he reviews on his own, he should be able to tackle the test with relative ease. I recommended that he check out the supplemental material online for further review."
"The student, having exceeding expectations on his last algebra test, was confident in tackling more problems related to the system of equations. Such a topic is excellent for reinforcing the basic use of fractions, solutions of single variable algebraic expressions, and dual variable equations. So as we went through the student's homework for this week, we saw opportunities to continue learning about equations. The homework also contained review exercises concerning the expansion of linear expressions in parentheses. Generally, the student remains engaged and attentive, though it is still hard to go really fast ahead since we are still rebuilding his basic skill set. As he is also doing better in his homework grades now, it is important to review all his submitted homework. It seems that the teacher does not give back the homework sets and that is something that he will be inquiring about this week."
"We went over more methods of simplifying algebraic expressions. We also went over simplifying expressions with 1 variable. We practice some more expression with exponents, emphasizing radicals. Then we started on scientific notation. We went over what it is, where we will use it, and how to convert from standard notation to scientific notation and how to go from scientific notation to standard notation."
"For today's tutoring session, we reviewed quadratic equations and reviewed ahead into the other sections. We reviewed completing the squares, the quadratic formula, and the discriminant. We reviewed these sections very well in depth and did a lot of practice problems. At first, the student was a bit confused with problems of completing the squares, but she has gained confidence and understands how to do them. Overall, the session was very good and I know that she will go to math class and will understand everything about sections and have a review session (during class)."
"We started the subject of parabolas, specifically how the functions are plotted and what the resulting graphs look like. The student seemed to have received some of the material herself beforehand which made things run smoothly. She seemed excited to do well. I mentioned that she should redo some problems in her homework for extra practice."
"The student and I went over his pretest assignment, incorporating topics that we have been doing for the past few weeks. For most of them, I helped him work through them and for the rest, he completed the problems on his own."
