Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered finding determinants, inverse, and identity matrices. The student needed help with inverse matrices. Once we went over a few problems, he was fine. He felt OK, a little timid at first, but better once we had done a few examples. We went over a few quick ways to find determinants, and cofactor matrices. This made it easier to complete 2 by 2 and 3 by 3 questions. His class is online, so we went over a few examples. He had more questions to practice from. This was our first session, so he was asked questions and paid attention very well."
"We covered multiplying multiple fractions and started in on units of measure. Before our next session, the student should try and get past at least lesson 40. Lesson 31 is especially important, and she should make sure she understands that as much as possible. The student should make a list of any topics that she goes over and has trouble with. Looking forward, lesson 44 will probably be difficult."
"We discussed Chapter 7.3, 7.4 and 7.5. Chapter 7.3 was about adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing radicals. The student did very well in this section. Chapter 7.4 was about rational exponents. I reminded him to take note of the summary table in the book that will help him in this chapter. The student was able to interchange radical form to exponent form, which is very important in this chapter. Chapter 7.5 was about solving square roots and radical equations. We encountered some word problems and we were able to review how to solve those. Some geometry equations came along such as the formula for the area of a circle, so the student was getting refreshed on those as well. The student is more confident now in taking the roots of quadratic equations."
"Finished up Chapter 1 in the book (Perimeter and Area) and moved on to Chapter 2 (Patterns and Sequences). This material seems less familiar to the student, but she's starting to get the hang of it and I look forward to seeing how well she handles the rest of it."
"We worked on multiplying binomials, evaluating functions, piece wise functions, domain, range, and graphs. We had a really good session!! I am so impressed with how much the student has done on her homework by herself, because she has never taken algebra before."
"In this lesson, the student and I continued to review the concepts that he learned in pre-algebra. We worked through problems about fractions, exponents, and simplifying equations. He knew these topics fairly well, especially the ones that we spent the most time on last fall and the ones that he had learned most recently in his pre-algebra class. He worked very hard."
