Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We talked primarily about indefinite integrals, including how to simplify certain rational functions into forms that are easy to integrate. We also briefly discussed Riemann sums and definite integrals. I presented a few special integrals (namely, exponential functions and of 1/x). The student had no trouble with the material."
"We covered completing the square for vector form and circles. We also did some review of vectors with magnitude and resultant angles. The student did very well with both parts. She caught on quickly to the new homework on completing the square, and she seemed to comprehend the vector review."
"The student is now reviewing for her final. We went over previous test questions provided by her teacher. I pointed her toward some learning resources for matrices, because the teacher will not cover them but they will be on the exam."
"The student and I met today to discuss integrals (antiderivatives) and how to solve them using u substitution. She was still struggling a little bit to understand the overall process of u substitution, but this is very normal for students who are being introduced to this topic for the first time. She and I will meet again this weekend to continue work on this."
"We worked on calculus today. We worked on min/max problems. They involved areas and perimeters. Some involved max/min perimeters and others involved max/min perimeters. We also looked at a problem that involved minimizing the distance between a point and a function, and another problem which involved minimizing an area that involved a 1/2 circle and rectangle."
"We did more free-response practice questions, which the student had no trouble with. For next meeting, he should do the previous year's free-response questions, following the calculator and time constraints as they would be for the actual exam. We'll then go over strategies to speed up his responses and cover any questions he could not answer correctly."
