Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Yesterday I went and checked in on the student to see how her schoolwork was going. We looked through her grades and I followed up with her on all of the assignments that didn't have grades next to them. She had a lab test in earth science coming up, so I quizzed her on eccentricity of orbits, rock identification, and mineral properties. She was all caught up in the rest of her classes. She has state assessment exams in Earth Science next week, so we will meet next week to work on them."
"Tonight we began our review of 7th grade topics to include ratios, scaling, angles, and regular shapes. We will continue this with a formal curriculum using worksheets to test her past knowledge and assist in difficult areas throughout the summer."
"During this session we worked on problems for the topics of vector addition, the dot product and vector projections. The student seemed to be struggling most with terminology, but seemed excited to learn the material. He has an exam on this material tomorrow and said that he feels much more prepared after our session."
"The student took a sample SAT math test prior to our session. We spent the session going over what she got wrong. She did very well! The majority of questions she got wrong were Data Analysis questions. We will focus on these questions in future sessions. She got her Geometry book for next year, so we will begin working through the book as well."
"We went over the last section in the student's class, which was trigonometry. It consisted of finding all six trigonometric functions of a triangle given two sides and which angle is being used. We also solved the missing side of triangles using the Pythagorean Theorem."
"The student takes her Algebra 2 Final tomorrow. So today we focused on reviewing for the Final with the main focus on Chapter 11: Sequences and Series. We went over how to write a recursive and an explicit sequence, how to identify arithmetic and geometric sequences, summation, etc. Emily did well in understanding the concepts and practicing few problems of each section. As typical with this concept, the biggest challenge is figuring out the sequence. So we worked on some techniques and how to test the terms so the formula is appropriate to the series or sequence. We also looked over finding the area under a curve using inscribed and circumscribed rectangles. I believe she will do well on her Final."
