Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has an exam on 3/25. We went through her review problems. She was really worried about memorizing all of the equations. We went through each equation and I showed her how they were derived from other equations she already knew. I told her she needed to make sure to review ellipses and hyperbolas a little more after I left. She is doing well with the information and definitely has the skills to do the work. She just needs a little more self confidence around hyperbolas. She should do well on her exam tomorrow."
"The student was, as usual, very attentive, focused, & open to learning. I was a bit concerned with Arthur since although the concepts came back to him once I started reexplaining them, they were not fresh in his mind. This indicated to me that the student had likely not been studying Math outside of our tutoring sessions. I spoke with him for a bit about the importance of consistent practice/studying and making a habit out of it. Hopefully the student will do okay on his test today, and we can continue working on study skills. He is by far intelligent enough to understand and regurgitate the concepts in math, but requires a greater amount of practice. I am hoping I can emphasize the importance of learning these techniques now so as to largely benefit his future career in College."
"The student sent me an activity he worked on in class regarding finding the areas of various shapes and figures. The dimensions all involved decimals so there was some tricky math. We then practiced some surface areas of cubes, pyramids, and rectangular prisms. I added some decimals also to ensure he got some additional practice with his math!"
"The student worked a lot with r-controlled vowels, handwriting, and reading comprehension. He is still struggling with understanding what he's reading. He is working very hard to sound out words. I am trying to help him develop the habit of pointing at his words. He has a bad habit of guessing words and not sounding them out. He worked very hard."
"We worked through the student's most recent homework assignment. The material dealt with statistical analysis, positive and negative z-values, percentiles, and standard deviation. The student had a good understanding of the simple aspects of statistics. She had the most trouble with determining the value of a given percentile. We covered the basic of statistics to build her understanding to solve the problems."
"Yesterday, the student and I had our first session. We got introduced and worked on her math homework. Her homework involved finding areas of trapezoids. She seemed very comfortable with the math. I taught her ways to simplify the problems and how to recognize which are the bases of the trapezoid. We worked together to solve the riddle at the bottom of the work sheet."
