Recent Tutoring Session Reviews

The student was working on problems with springs, spring forces, and conservation of energy. They were challenging problems, and we were able to make some good progress.

The student reported a 95 on his last test (awesome!). The review covered factoring, long division, synthetic division, simplifying expressions with exponents, solving polynomial equations, and rationalizing radicals in denominators. He managed the material easily.

We began our session by going over Riemann sums, which the student learned in class this week. We then went over topics from last semester such as product rule, chain rule, critical points, and inflection points. We are going to continue working on new topics she learns in class to help her understand these better and also continue to review older topics to start preparing her for the AP exam.

Today, the student and I discussed concepts related to the capital structure of a corporation or organization and first reviewed the "balance sheet" (or "T-account") effects of project investment, expected cash flows, assets (as corporate value), and debt and equity (liabilities and owner's equity). We reviewed the different scenarios that can occur depending upon whether debt or equity is used. We also started working through an assignment that was directly related to these concepts and completed the first portion related to the use of equity as a financing option.

Today, we worked on the student's map activity about the American Revolution and the timing of the events. We also worked on his social studies debate about student privacy. He did a really good job today. I asked him to be ready with half an hour each of math and English work for Tuesday.

Tonight's lesson focused on the chapter 11 take-home test covering similarity in different figures. Both boys did well on the problems. The students will be taking their test on Friday.
