Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is exhibiting a stronger command of spoken English, not only through our vocabulary and reading studies but through conversation. Based on his interest in technology, at the beginning of each meeting, he regales me with a coherent and informative update on electronics news, such as the advent of progressive virtual reality devices. We added a few vocabulary terms to his lexicon, including "sublime," "shudder," "tantrum," "transpire," and words related to these by roots and multiplicity of connotation."
"The student expressed excitement about a skit exercise so we practiced pronunciation by creating scenarios and characters. We also reviewed the pronunciation of everyday language such as days of the week, months of the year, numbers, states and geographical landmarks. To practice reading, we completed another article about the Boston Tea Party. I identified areas of improvement with different color pens. We have seemed to develop a good system and the student continues to excel."
"Today we started off by going over the student's homework and vocabulary words from the book she has been reading. We discussed which words were important for her to know and then she summarized her ideas of her book thus far and gave me her opinions on the main character, and told me about a similar spiritual journey she had had. Then, we did more practice with if statements, particularly focusing on past perfect tenses. She did extremely well with this, and really seems to be getting the hang of would versus will. I asked her to write one example sentence every day of the next week so that she will remember this form. In addition, I asked her to try to use this grammar three times in the next week in real conversation."
