"I have been tutoring since I was in high school, and I find it very rewarding to watch my students improve through our work. As a tutor, I make sure my students understand the fundamentals of the topic we are reviewing. I then work on practice problems with them until they know the ins and outs of the subject area. I tutor for high school admissions tests, the SAT, ACT, math, writing and French.."

"I have been a private tutor for the last 10 years now in Math (through Pre-Calculus), Literature (American, British, grammar), SAT I (Math, Verbal, Writing), and SAT II (Math I and II, Literature). Before moving to New York, I ran a private tutoring company based out of Rhode Island where I created curricula for various standardized exams (ISEE, SSAT, SAT I and II, ACT, MAT, GRE); I also offered college admissions guidance. I believe that the most important part of any tutor-student relationship is the ability for each to relate to the other; the tutor must be able to relate to the student relevant information that makes the material ...

"Students at top high schools like Stuyvesant and Brooklyn Tech are especially engaging to work with, due to the challenging nature of the material and the lively mind of the student. In addition to my own tutoring practice, I've also been director of a non-profit tutoring center. Under my administration we tracked students' scores and attained the highest average grade increase in the program's history. By guiding other tutors and consulting students for feedback on their experience, I got a very keen sense of what works and what doesn't." ...

A photo of Lauren who is one of our New York City ISEE tutors
"When I'm not tutoring or working on my dissertation, I do some freelance writing. It's a cliche to say that my writing informs my teaching while my teaching improves my writing, but it's also true: the constant effort to improve my own work helps me to understand what my students are going through, while my work as a teacher and tutor gives me a fresh perspective on my writing. I always stress that writing is rewriting. One of my happiest moments as a teacher was when one of my students won the UC Berkeley English Department's annual Essay Prize last spring with a paper I helped her to revise." ...

A photo of Alyssa who is one of our New York City ISEE tutors
" During my senior year, I researched and compared the educational systems and conditions faced by Chinese migrant children and those faced by undocumented children in America. As a long time athlete, I understand the value of coaching and teamwork. This is reflected in my tutoring; I believe that creating a dynamic partnership between student and tutor allows for even greater and more sustained success than teaching alone.."

A photo of Maddy who is one of our New York City ISEE tutors
"I have a firm grasp on all subjects regarding Mathematics up to college level Calculus 2. As far as English is concerned, since my degree is both a science and humanities degree, I have mastered how to write persuasively, informatively, and creatively. Critical thinking skills and good reading comprehension, I believe, is crucial to succeeding in any English class or pass any sort of exam in English as well. These skills have been grossly ingrained within me, because of all of my humanities courses including but not limited to persuasive anthropology classes, writing seminars and the like." ...

A photo of Caleb who is one of our New York City ISEE tutors
"I believe strongly that anyone who learns the structure, nuances, focuses, and limits of the SAT can not only improve their score but earn perfect scores like I did on the creative reading and writing multiple-choice sections. Students spend hours on regular coursework that prepares them for the SAT but very little time studying the actual test, which is surprisingly predictable and limited in scope. Many of these principles also apply to the ISEE, PSAT, and Iowa Test of Basic Skills. I have taught violin to five students over a span of three years and studied violin at the Albania Academy of Arts. In Albania I taught English and served as a ...
