Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began this lesson by talking about our day, and the student expressed that she would like to study the past tense of verbs. After that we discussed the paragraph I left her for homework. She understood the gist of the paragraph and did not have trouble with the vocabulary. I then helped her translate an email that she received from her wedding planner. Lastly, I began a lesson on the feminine and masculine form of nouns and discussed the exceptions."
"Today, The student and I went through an intensive review of the subjunctive. We covered almost everything that I've taught so far on the subject. I had him attempt to explain back to me every concept of subjunctive that we've been over thus far, which he was able to do with success. We also went over the alphabet in Spanish and I had him practice spelling words in Spanish. We went over the different kinds of mood that trigger subjunctive and how to identify them. We also did a complete review of conjugation in the subjunctive. Good work!"
"Today we reviewed the homework that was given to the student and introduced the verb "gustar" (to like). In addition, I added more vocabulary words for her to make sentences and use as conversation. The lesson went smoothly."
"We began with a general introduction to basic Spanish grammar, covering gender of nouns and adjectives, articles and pronunciation. We also touched briefly on the difference between estar and ser. The student made good progress by the end of the session."
"In today's session, the student and I briefly discussed what he was covering in each of his classes before beginning work on his Spanish homework, which we spent the remainder of the session reviewing. Specifically, the student continues to work on the differences between the preterite and imperfect past tenses of the language, as well as vocabulary-building. As no major assessments have yet taken place in this new quarter, the student does not have any new grades or scores to report. He does not appear to be struggling with anything in any of his classes at this time. As we finished all of the required work by the end of the session, he didn't have any more work to practice on, other than continuing to study his vocabulary. I have no concerns from this session."
"Today we reviewed clothing vocabulary. First, I reviewed the student's homework, and then she did a short quiz translating words from English to French. I also had a PowerPoint presentation with more clothing vocabulary and questions about clothing. We did a short activity online. She did a short worksheet covering present and past tense and the endings for -er, -re, and -ir verbs. We also went through the verbs to be, to have, to do, and to go (as they are irregular verbs). Then we started chapter 8 in the book, covering food. We read the dialogue, reviewed the vocabulary, and did a short grammar lesson. For homework, she will review the vocabulary and exercises from the first part of the chapter (and she can go ahead to the second part if that feels like that is too little to do). She will also complete the exercises for the first section of chapter 8 in her workbook. We will meet again next Tuesday."
