Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Pre-calculus midterm exam review - unit circle, trigonometry, law of sines, right triangle properties, finding domain, and simplifying."
"In this session we were working on prepping the student for the last test he would be taking for math. We worked on the ideas of mathematical induction as well."
"The student and I spent time reviewing his study guide for his final, which is next Tuesday. It mostly covered trigonometry. He is very smart! We are working on catching him up as he just switched schools."
"Lesson 92: Probability of Either, Notations for Permutations and combinations. Lesson 93: Trigonometric identities, Triangle Inequalities (2). Lesson 94: Graphs of Secant and Cosecant, Graphs of Tangent and Cotangent. I gave student the following cheat sheets prepared by me: 1). Calculus Cheat Sheet, 2). The Trigonometric functions cheat sheets, 3). Algebra Cheat Sheets. I also gave her the easy notes on circles, parabolas, hyperbolas, and ellipsoids. These notes will help her to compare and contrast the difference and similarities between these geometric shapes. She scored 80% in the last weekly test in her Pre-Calculus AB class, and the student is well satisfied with her scores."
"Today the student and I worked on his Pre-calculus homework due Monday and reviewed for his upcoming SAT. The student did great with his math homework and looks like he's off to a good start this quarter. We reviewed several sections of practice SAT problems for the majority of the time, with a focus on test taking strategies."
"We covered concepts of composite functions and numerous related exercises, for example: if h(x)= (2-3x^2)^2, and (fog)(x)=h(x), and g(x)=2-3x^2, then what is f(x)? Answer: f(x)=x^2. We solved numerous problems involving finding inverse functions of linear functions, polynomials, and radicals. We also solved word problems involving time-dependent areas, and related quadratic equations. The student was able, under supervision, to answer all homework questions correctly. Composite functions were certainly the biggest point of struggle and it will take a few more examples of specific functions for the student to be fluent in composite functions. This will be important later for derivatives and antiderivatives. The student's attitude towards this online materials is that of utmost care, diligence, and seriousness. She is determined to bring her grade up. Extra practice left to the student involves the homework problems that we skipped because they were quite similar to the ones we completed. The major takeaway from this session was that the student is able to learn a great majority of relevant topics with ease but needs to overcome one or two fundamental roadblocks."
