Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was my first session with the student. I reviewed Entomology notes with the student today. He has a final examination early mid-June, and wanted to start preparing right now. I tried to touch on key concepts based on his previous examinations (midterms 1 and 2). We drew diagrams and reviewed how insects molt, feed with specialized mouthparts, the digestive system of insects (generalized diagram), and how they breathe through tracheae and spiracles. I urged him to review the study guides for his previous two examinations, as the final examination is cumulative."
"Today we covered molecular genetics, transcription, translation, mRNA, tRNA, and protein synthesis in preparation for the pupil's quiz this week."
"We went over the excretory and muscular systems in preparation for the student's biology test. I also provided guidance as she completed algebra homework on finding slope."
"Today, we reviewed Punnett squares. We worked on the technicalities of monohybrids and dihybrids. Once the student had a decent grasp of the squares, I began giving him simple problems with dominant and recessive traits. I then explained incomplete and codominance. Once he perfected those problems, I introduced dihybrid and trihybrids to test his understanding. While he knew how to solve mono and dihybrids, he struggled identifying how to solve word problems by utilizing these hybrids. With more classwork and practice, I expect him to have a great grasp of the material. We will continue to go over this topic at our next session."
"The student and I reviewed the two chapters we have been working on for the past few weeks for his test tomorrow. He seemed fairly confident with the material. We started with covering lingering questions he had on the reproductive chapters and reviewing some of the more challenging material within that chapter. Then, we moved on to the final parts of the evolution chapter that he had covered in class with his professor but not yet with me. We touched on major concepts of this chapter and went through his professor's notes on what material would be on the test. I also had emailed him earlier in the day some YouTube videos discussing the challenging parts of the material for him to watch during his own studying. Starting next session (Thursday), we will begin reviewing for his final (the following Wednesday)."
"We covered test prep for a test covering replication, transcription, and translation. The test was the next day."
