"Today we did some test prep to help get the student ready for his chemistry test tomorrow. The test is on energy/thermodynamics. Specifically the area he is concerned about is calculating the change in enthalpy of a reaction given a specific amount of reactant. We worked through a couple of problems in his textbook that calculated the change in enthalpy of a reaction with given amounts of reactant or product. I explained how he needed to first convert to moles and then use the mole to delta H ratio to solve for "x". After he worked through the problem he was feeling far more confident in the material. We also worked through a problem where he had to first find the limiting reagent and then use that to find the change in enthalpy. He did well with this after talking through an example of how to find the limiting reagent. I also went over a few problems regarding specific heat to make sure he understood that material still; he did well with these. At the end I had him talk through the concepts qualitatively to make sure he understood the material. I think he is prepared for this test."
"Yesterday the student and I reviewed for her test. We specifically covered Lewis structures, hybridization, and atomic trends. I saw no notes of progress, but she has steadily been improving at this subject. She was struggling most with molecular shape and polarization. It is a very visual subject, and difficult to understand. I left her a practice problem packet to give her some extra help before her test."
"We went through a practice problem set covering all chapters on AP for his quiz tomorrow. We also went through some of the questions he didn't know on his last test."
"We went over different versions of electron configuration today. We first covered what electron configuration is and how that can be applied to various problems that include ions and transitional metals."
"Today, the student and I reviewed electrolysis, non standard cell potentials, and stoichiometry. His next test is on Thursday, and his final is on next Tuesday. We will be reviewing on Thursday and Sunday for his final."
"Today with Student 1, my time was split between History and Physics. He had a short worksheet for Physics on the topic of Energy- he was not super confident on the material, but once he had done a few of each type of problem, he was totally fine. I know History is one of his weakest subjects, so I would like to have as long as possible to prepare him for his exam. Today, I went through his Rome notes and made them into a study guide, using the textbook to fill in the gaps. Tomorrow, I will have him type them into his iPad, as that seems to be a consistent way of helping him to review."
