Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"It was a solid meeting tonight as we reviewed advanced concepts in linear regression. She provided examples for a visual topic and seemed to follow the ideas very well."
"We discussed some more free response practice questions from the AP exam. We focused on problems related to rates of change, changing variables, continuity, and finding averages of functions."
"We went over holes, vertical asymptotes, and horizontal asymptotes. Additionally, we covered solving algebraic equations with radicals."
"We went through all of the student's old quizzes and focused on the topics that she had been struggling with. We reviewed the difference between average velocity and instantaneous velocity and how they can be generalized into average and instantaneous rates of change. We also reviewed related rates of change and optimization and how to recognize these types of problems. As part of our review of rates of change, we also looked at the chain rule and implicit differentiation when taking the derivative of certain functions. We went over a couple of different ways to break down a composite function and take its derivative. I gave her a worksheet of chain rule practice problems to work on."
"The student's homework today dealt with statistics problems and binomial distributions. We went over the concept of the probability of a specific event or a set of events happening and why the formula she was given in class applies to the scenarios we were covering. We then went over problems in the form (x+y)^n, and used Pascal's Triangle and the properties of binomial distributions to figure out each term in the multiplied polynomial. We ended with a brief overview of normal distributions and the concept of means and standard deviation."
"I worked with the student on setting up his agenda book per his mother's request. We also worked on volume formulas for cones, cylinders, and spheres and created new flashcards for these formulas. Lastly, we worked on a set of questions from the 8th grade state math test and reviewed concepts that came up while working on these problems. We set a new routine where I will be checking his agenda book once a week to make sure he's using it in the most effective way possible."
