Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed for the student's Chemistry test retake on acid-base and equilibrium chemistry. We practiced problems based on the questions from his first attempt at the test, focusing on word problems and the math involved in converting molarity to moles or liters and finding pH and pOH from concentrations of acids and bases. We also reviewed some concepts around equilibrium equations and Le Chatelier's Principle. Finally, I reminded him to keep his answers clear and to write down the whole answer and to be methodical in his work on the test, just as we practiced during the session. As long as he stays focused during his exam, he should be able to get a much higher grade this time."
"The student and I worked on math and chemistry today. We spent the first half going through a math assignment on measuring angles in a circle, which she was doing alright on, and took notes on in her study guide. If possible, I'd like to do more practice problems with her on these topics, though. Then we looked at her new topic in chemistry, acids and bases. She was following along with good attention on these, and took notes on the three types of acids/bases in her study guide. We'll add more to it as we go."
"In the last two sessions, the student worked on his chemistry assignment, and we also reviewed for his chemistry test on Friday. The content covered was on equilibrium in reactions and reaction energies, catalysts, and changes in energy. He blazed through the material for the most part, only having trouble on certain concepts in the problems. However once explained he understood the material very well."
"First we reviewed for the student's Spanish test which is tomorrow. He seems to be doing really well with the imperfect conjugations, as well as the present and past participle conjugations, which are the main thing the test will be covering. We also reviewed the different uses of "se" in Spanish. I think he will do well on his test, though he still has a lot of vocabulary to review and needs to memorize the irregular preterite conjugations. We then started reviewing for his math final which is next week. We worked mainly on exponential functions on logarithms and rational expressions, which he did very well with. We started reviewing conic sections and identifying different components of their standard equations, but we will spend a lot more time on this topic next time because this seems to be what he needs the most help with."
"The student and I worked on his assignment for Chemistry pre-lab assignment. His goal was to prepare for the lab and write down the procedures in his lab notebook using his own words. I clarified with him the instructions."
"The student had a great session overall and was incredibly focused on preparing for his History exam! We began by resetting his study schedule since his math and science packets took longer to complete than he anticipated. That meant he had to spend more time preparing for his history exam this evening as well as his English exam. Once we rearranged his schedule we got started on making "theme maps" for his history exam. This involved the student combing through his notes to identify themes and then pull out specific evidence that supports his claim that these are significant themes. He got through about half of his content and will need to finish his maps as well as his flash cards this evening."
