Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we worked on transformations. We applied reflection, rotation, and vertical or horizontal transformations to geometric figures. We found the image of geometric figure using different combinations of transportation. Then we wrote a congruent statement. Next, we went over the side-side-side congruence theorem and side-angle-side congruence theorem and justified that triangles are congruent."
"Today, I helped the student with homework, and we went over proofs. I showed her how to approach the problems and had her teach it to me on another problem. There were some improvements, and more practice problems are recommended."
"I met with the student today to work on homework and go over sections 1-3 of chapter 7 in geometry. He is still having a slight issue with the geometric mean theorems. We did a few of the quiz questions from the textbook and then he moved on to his homework assignment from the workbook."
"The student has a test today. The test is on sections 4.1-4.4 and covers triangles, using properties of triangles to find the internal angles, and proving whether or not triangles are congruent. She has a good understanding of those major concepts. We have scheduled 3 more sessions in the next 2 weeks in preparation for her big exam."
"The student and I reviewed her chapter 6 homework dealing with similar polygons and ratios. She seemed to grasp this material well. She let me know that she has a comprehensive exam covering chapters 1-6 in 2 weeks. She is supposed to get a review from her teacher soon that we will start working through. I offered to do some extra sessions to help her prepare for her exam. She also let me know that she received a 100% on her last exam that we prepared for before the holidays. I'm so proud! I think the amount of material for her comprehensive exam will be tricky but she has plenty of time to prepare. We started going over her old exams yesterday and she brought up creating flashcards to prepare."
"We went a bit longer than usual today to make sure the student is fully prepared for her test on chapter 4 this Thursday. Concepts addressed included transformations regarding triangles in coordinate graphs, congruence postulates, exterior angle properties, and especially proofs using congruence postulates and CPCTC. She's learned most of what she needs. I really emphasized that she needs to know what proof she is using (e.g. SAS, HL, CPCTC) ahead of time so she knows exactly which statements she needs to include. Most of the time, she will be given two parts of her proof, an angle and a side for instance, and needs to complete the proof with another common part that is already apparent. She'll also have to be more thorough with checking coordinates in transformations."
