Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked through practice math questions, reviewing content as needed. She has a more difficult time setting problems up and can usually work through the math easily once I give her hints. We also worked through some longer reading passages and discussed author's intent and passage structure. We worked a few vocabulary questions and reviewed when to skip/guess."
"We mainly focused on SAT writing, going over the essay that the student had written and thinking of ways to improve the sentence structure, the general evidence and support of the essay, and the general essay structure. She needs more practice on writing, as she sometimes forgets to write certain words and had a fragmented sentence. We also caught some spelling mistakes. All in all, she is on a good path, and with more practice, I believe she will write well."
"The student did great work in math today. Stay rested, have a good breakfast Saturday morning, and good luck!"
"The student finished 3 sections of a practice SAT, and he did surprisingly well across the board for Math, Critical Reading, and Writing. He was very encouraged by the results, and is going to finish another practice SAT this weekend. His actual exam date will be the weekend after next, so we hope to consolidate what we've learned and put it to the best of use!"
"The student and I had a good session working on the SAT. We worked almost exclusively on the math section, first reviewing homework he did and then doing practice problems. We also reviewed a little bit of the writing section. There is no question that we have made great strides, although I suspect that he isn't quite where he would like to be yet. I assigned him practice sections as homework."
"We went over SAT math section. We talked about building upon simple information to answer complex problems, then discussed chunking. We went over brief SAT writing multiple choice. I assigned her an essay and rest of writing multiple choice section for homework."
"The student and I continued rigorously working through the writing section of the SAT. Her English skills are at a borderline ESL level. We have begun our sheet of definitions for words that feel foreign to her. We worked through her practice booklet together, with me explaining the majority of the questions that she struggled with. I'm doing my best to instill concrete rules for her to follow with each different question type. Next week we will work through the essay portion. Perhaps writing will help her further understand these essential elements of the English language."
"The students started with a math practice test which we reviewed. We also went over SAT words, with flashcards. I brought a book to help explain passive voice construction. We will continue with some writing practice and more vocab next week."
"The student is a very talented test taker, but he tends to take a bit of time to solve problems. He almost invariably arrives at the correct answer. Tonight we performed some diagnostics and went over some general test taking strategies while simultaneously reviewing the questions he missed on his diagnostic test. I have asked him to purchase the official SAT practice book and begin to go through timed sessions. We will continue to work through his areas of difficulty during our next session in two weeks."
"We reviewed all SAT sections. The student primarily needed help with Reading Comp question and passage interpretation. The student is to practice Reading Comp sections and writing prompts for next time."
