Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I reviewed the Endocrine system, with which he seems much more familiar with the material. We also reviewed the frog dissection structures as well."
"The student is starting to review for his final exam. We went over methods for studying effectively, and started reviewing the genetics section of his final review."
"Today was our last session, since the student's biology final is Thursday. We did a longer session today, and spent the majority of the time going through the final exam guide that the teacher gave the students. She did an INCREDIBLE job explaining to me each and every one of the many vocabulary words and concepts on the study guide. I also threw in some practice exam questions or ideas that I've encountered from a college professor, which she did a great job with. She has a better final and overall understanding of this semester's material than many of the college freshman and sophomores that I've encountered during my tutoring. I'm incredibly impressed with her hard work and dedication to learning this material. I wish her the best of luck on her final, and it was an absolute pleasure working with her."
"The student and I did a review of photosynthesis, and the circulatory and lymphatic systems. We did a quick review of the light vs dark reactions and what happens during each. We had a detailed review of the circulatory system and went over the flow of blood and the way the heart works. I asked her to send me her study guide so we can go over that together at our next session."
"During this session, I worked with the student to further get to know the class setup and organize her papers and notebooks. She was missing many pages from her required notebook, so we worked on finding the ones she did have and leaving space in her notebook for others. Organizing the class notebook will be helpful for her notebook grade, and also make it easier to study for quizzes and tests. I think that she was able to see the importance of keeping class notes and assignments more organized and how it will make studying easier in the future."
"We covered the topic of biotechnology in manipulating DNA. The student gave me a section of her textbook to cover that discussed manipulating DNA within molecular biology. We went over each page individually for a better understanding of the concepts from restriction enzymes to gel electrophoresis to PCR cloning. She struggled the most with connecting the material with already learned topics, making it difficult to understand manipulating DNA. I assisted her through recalling the concepts and vocabulary of DNA to discuss with the new topics. Since learning the material is the most difficult, I recommended testing out an educational website to assist in understanding of the topic."
