Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on the some reading passages together. The student's speed has gotten up to a good rate and I don't think she will be too pressured for time on the reading section. Again, she is performing well, there are questions that she made some premature decisions when she found as answer that she liked. I am trying to get her to be better attuned to the gut feeling of not really loving an answer and sweeping to see if there are better alternatives. I also encouraged her to work on differentiating between multiple possible good answers."
"The student is continuing to improve her scores in all areas. She should continue to focus on improving her scores in the English and Science sections. Also, she should (without sacrificing quality) pace herself appropriately on the Math section. the student should try another entire practice exam before this Saturday, if possible."
"Today the student and I began by reviewing the science sections she completed before our session. She did relatively well on these sections, so she is now very close to her target score. She then completed half of an ACT math section to work on her timing. We then reviewed the raw scores she needs for all sections of both the SAT and ACT to achieve her goal scores of 700 and 30 respectively. Finally, we worked short timed SAT reading and writing practice also to work on timing. Before our meeting next week, she is going to complete three SAT math sections. She is doing well and I believe she is very close to her target scores. Hopefully, she can complete a full-length SAT practice test soon so we can get a better read on where her score is currently."
"For this lesson, I had the student take full length Math and Science Section Tests. She scored a 29 on math and a 31 on Science. She also previously scored a 33 on her English section."
"We are going to try focusing on just answering the first three passages as well as possible to help her along even more. After reviewing her practice Reading and Science tests, Dana and I practiced some Math together also. I have assigned her a full assessment for next week."
"We went over Algebra concepts for the ACT and had the student take a short practice test to see where she was at. There really weren't any concepts that she did not understand and she just needed some practice to refresh her mind."
"We covered trig and geometry. The student is very smart and retained a lot of what I taught her. She hasn't learned a lot about trig yet; I'll have to teach her about it before the ACT."
"The student and I went through the Science section and worked on problems from the Math section of a practice exam. We went over the answers to the questions that were more challenging. I gave tips for increasing speed in the Science section."
"The student and I reviewed the format of the ACT test, her score goals. We then worked through the English section of a practice test, paying particular attention to questions regarding sentence boundaries, punctuation, pronoun case, and agreement. The student identifies independent clauses very well. By the end of the session, she felt much more prepared for the English section on the ACT."
"Today the student and I started online and went over an ACT Science exam. We discussed how to read tables and determine which information is relevant to a given question. We then switched to the online platform and worked on a variety of math problems. Several of the problems involving trigonometric identities were difficult for the student so we are going to focus on these more next time."
"Today, the student and I worked on math and English. We will definitely be devoting a lot of time to math practice in our future sessions. Practicing English, he did very well and was very receptive to corrections, but was overall pretty strong in that subject. I asked him to do a practice test in each subject before we meet again."
"We went over the Reading section of the ACT and came up with some good strategies. The student is doing good work and spending a lot of time preparing. Her hard work is showing through. For homework I left some more reading sections from the website."
