Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Since today was our first session, I talked with the student to see where she is and what areas in algebra she feels that she need more attention. We started from the beginning of the textbook to see if she has a good grasp of the concepts and found that she does for the majority of the chapters. The two things that we will have to work on are fractions and exponents. For the next tutoring session, we will be working on fractions and exponents. She was very engaged and asked me questions she didn't understand. She was respectful and upbeat which is great. For Chapter 7, I broke the information of the different lessons into to simpler terms and wrote them as notes for her to keep. She had told me that the notes have been helpful and that they will help her with her homework assignment. I asked her to practice problems in her textbook as extra practice in addition to the homework problems. I will contact her parents to schedule her next tutoring session later this week."
"The student is studying for an upcoming math test scheduled for Wednesday. We worked on some problems that included percent change and fractions and decimals. He is getting used to the new format of entering in his answers in the computer. We also went over a paper that he is writing. He has to write a memoir of himself of an event in his life that has meaning. We outlined his topic and he is starting to write the rough draft. I will be meeting with him again tomorrow to review for his math test. He is a hard worker and is organized and responsible."
"The student had graph interpretation homework. It involved determining the relation between the x and y axes and writing scenarios for each type of graph. In addition to math homework, he had some literature homework that involved writing definitions."
"Today, we continued our work on exponents. Our work focused on negative exponents and on dividing terms with exponents. The student had a couple of pages of practice problems to work through, and he had multiple questions as we went along."
"We covered adding and subtracting polynomials. We talked about a couple of different strategies for this problem type."
"During this session, we covered expansion and simplification of polynomials. The student was comfortable with the material, and he was able to work the exercises in a quick manner. The student should keep in mind the creation of tables to resolve multiple variable equations (i.e., how many baskets were made, and how many points were the total combined to create enough information for two variables)."
