Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was our first session, so we covered the student's strengths and areas for improvement with Spanish. We discussed his previous Spanish experiences and the structure of his current course. We reviewed how his instructor tests the material via quizzes and exams, as well as what is expected of him in the homework. The student is comfortable with individual vocabulary terms, but expressed concerns with both responding to and translating entire sentences in Spanish. Specifically, we covered reflexive verbs and how to determine who is the subject of verbs' sentences. We discussed the need to pay close attention to the auxiliary verbs or verb clause to determine who is the subject. We also touched upon article usage. The student seemed content with his Spanish capabilities, but desires to take his Spanish comprehension to the next level. We will follow up in a few weeks to start practicing sentences with his vocabulary."
"Today, the student and I covered the following: - We practiced use, meaning, pronunciation, and spelling of new vocabulary words related to holidays and family gatherings. - We discussed differences between the two past tenses in Spanish (imperfect and preterite). - We completed reading exercises."
"Today we spent the entire session reviewing for the student's Spanish exam on giving and following directions. We reviewed key terms and concepts and practiced listening, speaking and writing. I suggested that the student spend a good amount of time tonight studying her vocabulary flash cards as she seems to have a solid grasp of the main verbs and constructions needed to give and understand directions in Spanish. On Thursday we will talk about how the test went. She did a great job today!"
