Tutoring review by Meghan in Hurst, TX
The student and I reviewed for a quiz she is having covering 7.1-7.3 in her textbook. We continued the process we started last week of simplifying and rationalizing expressions with radicals. She is doing well with these; her biggest challenge today was to slow down and not do as many steps in her head. She knows how to do the problems but makes simple mistakes. When Kristin did fewer steps in her head she made fewer mistakes. We will continue to work on this. We also discussed conjugates and how they are formed. We went over her homework and also did a word problem that wasn't part of her homework but could be similar to potential test questions. She was a little unsure of area formulas, so we went over those. In general, she is doing well and making progress.

We covered the Pythagorean theorem and triplets, then moved on to polynomials and operations between them. I noted that the student was having difficulty with negative numbers and covered these in-depth. I worked through the student's worksheets covering polynomials in standard form, addition, subtraction and multiplication of polynomials that include FOIL and distribution.

Tutoring review by Abbi in Hurst, TX
For this session, the student needed to make corrections to her physics test and review the concepts which did not make sense to her. She walked through the definitions and calculations for velocity, acceleration, and interpreting graphs. Then we spent the last part of the session reviewing her new math chapter about linear functions, the components of the formula, and how to evaluate slope.

Tutoring review by Nicole in Hurst, TX
The student started to work on the timed-practice tests, and she got an 85% on her verbal and 76% on the math section. Today's focus was on synonyms with root words, suffixes, and prefixes. Understanding what the common parts of the words are to define unfamiliar words can improve her scores. On the reading, she is doing much better with using process of elimination to take out the questions that she is not sure of and choosing from the 2 remaining choices. In math, we worked on scientific notation and simplifying exponents/complex fractions. This skill review was helping for her, and she successfully applied this. A lesson on Venn diagrams made these concepts easier for her to apply the rules as well. Our last session will be on Friday.

Tutoring review by Ronald in Hurst, TX
Today the student and I worked on his review sheet for algebra 2. He informed me that he had a two-day test coming up on Thursday and Friday of this week. We reviewed everything we had covered so far for quadratic equations, factoring, and graphing. I found him still making little mistakes in his calculations that causes him to have the wrong answer. I had him re-do each problem so that he could find his own mistakes (I find this is the best way they learn). Since we were limited on time, I skipped around the review packet so that he could show me he was able to do each of the problems on his own. He still had a lot of problems to complete until his test, so I closed our session by letting him know that he needs to slow down on each problem to avoid mistakes and to recheck all of his work, especially during his test.
