"Made a game for them to practice common questions and answers found in basic conversation. ex. How are you? I'm fine thank you. We then practiced asking "Do you have a/any_________?" by playing Go Fish. They loved it, so I gave them each a deck of cards. Then I did a money activity to teach them US coins and how to ask "Please give me____" and "Can I trade _____ for ______?""
"The student has become quite a bit more confident in English from what I can tell. She's not as afraid to try new phrases as she was the first couple of times we met. As in the other sessions, this session was mostly focused on conversation. She was receptive to my suggestions for grammar revisions and was more patient with herself than she has been in the past. We spent time going over a few specific verbs in past, present and future tenses - to be, to tell, to say. She wanted help distinguishing when to use "say/said" vs using "tell/told" in a sentence, and we looked up a handy guide for this online together and went through examples. By the end of the night she was saying "she told me" instead of "she say me." It's little things like this that will greatly improve her ability to be understood in English. We also looked up how to know when to use "look" vs "see" vs "watch", and she seemed to understand, but I hope to revisit this next session. When it was my turn to talk, she seemed to be understanding more easily. I could tell because she was asking follow-up questions, not just questions about vocab words I was using. We spent the last 20 minutes or so coming up with sentences in Spanish and then having Juliana try to translate them into English, writing them down. This exercise was very useful. I plan to bring some sentences written out for her to translate on Wednesday. She told me that she had been using the books I lent her and has been enjoying them."
"We spent today working on the student's test from last week as well as 3 struggle points she had during weekend study. She has a lot of improvement on pronunciation and is very motivated. I feel confident of helping her to move to the next level soon."
