Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on a reading comprehension passage and then we did a ton of math review. The student is making a tremendous improvement. Tomorrow is our last session before his test and I think he will do great."
"Tonight was our final session before the student takes the assessment exam. We began our session by talking about how the test was going to be performed in 5 sections, and the time limit for each section. Next, I suggested to him different test taking strategies such as, skimming the test section beforehand to see where the most time will need to be spent (some sections are longer than others), skimming reading passages by picking out main ideas, reading the first and last sentences in paragraphs, and being cognizant of time limit. I printed some material covering punctuation basics for him. I went over this information with him, and gave him the copy to look over tonight. We then did a 16 minute punctuation practice test. He was able to finish all but one question on the test. We went over his mistakes. He said it was hard to finish this test due to the distractions in the library, but once he was halfway through he figured out how to deal with them. Finally, we went through our cheat sheets that we created along the way of tutoring for the last time. He was focused, and even let me review with him all the way out the library door. He is a passionate learner, and has a great memory! I think he remembered nearly everything we covered in our sessions. Good Luck!!!! It was an absolute pleasure tutoring you."
"The student had another practice test that he'd gone over half of, so we continued reviewing the problems. His Language Skills section improved by 20% since our last meeting, which was great to see. He also did great with capitalization, and breezed through the capitalization worksheet I brought in. We spent some time going over Spelling, and I emailed them additional word lists for additional practice throughout the week. He will continue using his flashcards for this as well. I also assigned writing sentences for especially difficult words to help lock them in in a different way. Finally, we spent some time going over Base Five, which had come up on the tests. Math continues to seem more and more solid, so our final session will focus on the areas of vocabulary, spelling, and big picture, along with more abstract questions for Reading section."
