Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we most of our session on his take-home DBQ essay test. The essay topic was westward expansion, the environment, and the lives of settlers. He did a fantastic job placing the documents into the context of the history and using outside knowledge to weave them together and explain their significance. He made good notes on the documents without any prompting and circled important dates and information. He responded well to my delving deeper and asking him to expand and explain. Asking himself these questions during in-class essays will be something he will need to work on. We created an outline and a thesis statement, and discussed his organization. He has a great grasp on how to organize a coherent essay and his approach to the thesis was very good. We then finished the session with some of his IDs for the rest of the week."
"This session went well. We went over preparation techniques, test taking techniques, essay organization topics, and techniques for how to tackle multiple choice questions. I encouraged the student to do the assigned readings, as well as take notes during the reading sessions to maximize information retention. I believe this will be the best way for her to fully immerse herself in the material. She is a very bright, articulate student. If her substantive bank of knowledge can translate to her writing she will likely improve leaps and bounds in the next few weeks. She was a pleasure to work with!"
"The student and I spent the majority of this session studying the key terms, names, and events for his upcoming test. We also spent some time going over his SAT scores and talking about the actual SAT test."
