Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered trigonometric modeling, trigonometric functions, and graphing trigonometric functions and their inverses. The student did not seem to struggle much with the material; as soon as the concepts are explained, he seems to grasp the ideas quickly and apply them to the exercises. He is very positive and willing to learn and understand the material covered. He also has enough extra practice until the next session. I have no concerns for this session."
"Went over lesson in scientific notation today, clarifying concepts along the way. Went over 8 practice problems and a 10-question quiz. Clarified concepts involving base 10 raised to a power and working with the decimal point, and drilled on variations of this. By the time of the quiz, the student was getting the concepts pretty well and went through the quiz smoothly. We continued using a timer with a small break, and writing out drawn out problems on paper, which have both been helpful methods. I assigned the 2 other independent practice sections and the second quiz and recommended that he complete these exercises too within the week, which will solidify the concepts he learned until we meet next time."
"The student is an amazingly astute student. She is going through testing now and we discussed how she felt about it, any anxiety that she might have felt during testing today. Our session consisted of fraction review, reducing fractions, recognizing like terms and creating different representations of these fractions. We also worked on recognizing equivalent fractions (2/10 = 1/5). She did a great job today."
"The student and I began the tutoring session by working on his Language Arts assignment. The assignment included writing a news story about one of the most important events of his life. Additionally, some of his favorite things and his who his hero would be. We printed a picture of him and then he wrote a caption under it. The story he wrote was about attending school in the United States."
"The student and I spent the majority of the time working on math. We reviewed some order of operations work and then went on to identifying patterns and graphing points. We finished by working on science for the last 15 minutes or so."
"I brought some fraction review materials to see how much the student would remember. Once he got started, he did very well and by the end said that the problems were "too easy." I'm looking forward to moving to some new math concepts soon since he is doing so much better with fractions."
