Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this tutoring session, the student requested that we work on chemistry instead of geometry because she had more questions with the topics recently. Specifically, she wanted to cover balancing equations and writing out skeleton reactions from descriptions of a reaction. We began by working on balancing equations. She had a homework assignment that consisted of about 10 equations that needed to be balanced. I showed her one example of a sequence to follow when trying to balance equations and then I had her complete the remainder of the problems. Then, we worked on writing out skeleton equations. I gave her multiple chemical reactions and had her write out the skeleton for them."
"We went over conversion of energy between the units calorie, calorie, joule, kilojoule, and kilocalorie."
"We discussed: HIV structure and infection mechanism, immune response to infections, allergens, and asthma. We also practiced a bit on organic compound names."
"We discussed (a) acid and base, (b) more stoichiometry, (c) thermodynamics and phase change. Owing to missing several classes, the student was really struggling with the concepts. But through practice problems and discussion, the student has been made equipped for the exam."
"At this session the student and I went over evolution to prepare him for his test tomorrow. I think he understands the concepts, but he should really go over and make sure he has memorized all the terms and their definitions before bed tonight."
"In today's session, we worked on last-minute material for the student's final exam tomorrow. We looked at nuclear chemistry, molarity vs. molality, types of bonding, and solutions. I also gave the student some more practice she can look at and review tonight. She really seemed to understand the material we worked on today and I think she will be in good shape with a little more practice tonight. I told her to text me if she has any last-minute questions between now and the exam."
