"For this session, we sought to prepare the student for his upcoming test on evolutionary biology. He had a practice test that was given to him, so initially we went through the practice test together, with him answering each question, telling me his explanation, and then I would elaborate or correct him. This practice test covered much of his content, including definitions and principles. After the practice test, we went through a study guide that his teacher had given him. For the study guide, we primarily focused on Hardy-Weinberg principle problems. At the end of the session, I gave him the homework of writing down all of his answers to the study guide questions. After going over the definitions and providing definitions, he appeared to have a solid understanding on them and how to apply them."
"We covered a wide range of both geometry and chemistry. For chemistry, he was comfortable with calculations, but wanted a conceptual recap for redox reactions, thermochemistry and electrochemistry. After doing that, we went over a few things that he wanted to go over in geometry. At the end of the session, I sent him a practice SAT II chemistry exam, so that he would have plenty of honors chemistry questions to work on between now and his final."
"Today we began preparing for the student's final. He started the night by creating an outline of the topics that he's covered throughout the semester. Afterwards, I gave him a collection of problems that covered these topics. He was rusty on the majority of these problems, but we worked through them regardless, and he warmed up to them. Hopefully, this will help him remember how to approach these difficult problems."
"We covered more problems that would appear on the final exam. We also went over the exam sheet provided by the teacher that covered the purpose of each equation and in what scenario one would apply it. We also went over some conservation of momentum online questions. He has become much better at identifying the appropriate equation to use for a given problem. He is able to identify the type of problem, motion, electrostatics, magnetism, etc., and figure out which equation has the value he has been asked to solve for. His confidence in knowing where to begin with a problem helps to carry him through to the solution."
