Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over her homework on balancing equations/moles/empirical formula and then we proceeded to discuss stoichiometry and calculating theoretical yields from balanced equations."
"Today, we covered the application of exponential growth equations, as well as writing neutralization equations, and studying the properties of acid-base pairs."
"The student and I talked about periodic trends today. We started off with a review of her reading on the periodic table, then discussed periodic trends and worked through a POGIL on the periodic table. When we had finished that, we worked on her homework on arithmetic and geometric sequences in preparation for her quiz tomorrow."
"Today we discussed Equilibrium and LeChatelier's Principle. We discussed the theory behind Equilibrium and did examples of each topic behind LeChatelier's Principle asking the student to explain each. We then did calculations involving solubility products."
"Today we reviewed earlier material for the student's chemistry final. He remembers the general ideas from previous sections, but needs to review them for the final. It's multiple-choice, but covers a lot of different areas, so he needs to make sure he spends at least a little time studying each section."
"Today we covered acids and bases. We identified acids as having a hydrogen atom, bases as having an OH group, and also worked with reactions between acids and bases. In those neutralization reactions, the acid and base are neutralized to yield water and a salt. We also talked about what components make a salt (metal and nonmetal), how the reactivity table from the reference table determines if the reaction is going to take place, and finally we balanced some acid-base reactions. I felt like the student really retained the information we were going over, balancing the equations at the end of our session on her own."
