Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began by going over her homework from last week, she got them all correct. We continued going over her end of 3rd grade math test. We did more word problems that involved A/S/M/D, as well as how to write an equation to find the answer. She and I used peanuts to show her the numbers so she could visualize what we were going to show. No concerns from this session."
"The student had taken a three week College Algebra class in May and found it went too fast. She still had all of her materials and we went through page by page of a giant binder and she would ask me to explain any parts she did not understand. I would occasionally give her similar problems to try right there after explaining the parts she didn't understand."
"Today we covered chapters 6 and 7 in the Chemistry book. First we reviewed unit conversions, and then we really practiced them in chapter 6 with mole, volume and mass, and atom conversions. This also includes percent composition and molecular/empirical formulas. We then covered different types of chemical equations and practiced balancing equations. I gave a packet with practice problems in the book to do for the week. Next week we will complete chapters 8/9. This involves stoichiometry and mole ratios. Then we will start more towards thermochemistry."
"We reviewed the work that I left for the student and corrected some of the answers. She is working well with multiplication and division with decimals. We did a review and I left her with some work sheets to do for our next session."
"Today, the student worked on some math problems. He began with some relatively simple addition and subtraction problems before we moved to percentages and converting them to and from decimal numbers and fractions. We also discussed methods of organizing his work during the summer, as well as reading and talking about more of his novel."
"The student and I went over the semester review for the first half of her Algebra 2 class to cover a couple questions she wasn't sure about. This included matrices, division, and asymptotes. Afterwards, we talked about exponential functions and their properties. We talked about concepts and she was going to do the work after I left."
"We worked through the student's practice Summer Math Packet, reviewing topics from the previous year and introducing some uncovering subjects. It was a long packet, but he picked it back up well after we got started. He has a few problems to finish on his own, but shouldn't have trouble with them."
"We covered arc length and area in polar coordinates today. The student is working with remembering formulas. I recommended he try the next sections homework and review past sections and mark any problems he's still wants help with."
"We covered Volumes of a Solid with known Cross-sections today. We were able to work through rectangles and discs. We will cover Integration by Parts Thursday, then cover Shell Methods."
"During this session, we covered multiplication and word problems. The student's multiplication skills have improved. Also, he did a good job determining what the word problems were asking for and solving the problem correctly. He'd like help with multiplying double digit numbers. We will work on this during the next session. I left him with multiplication worksheets and told him to complete one per day. No concerns from this session."
"We continued going through the student's review. We went through past problems to see if he remembered the key processes and formulas. He did have a little trouble, but mostly understood all the past problems. All the ones he had trouble with were noted and I'll have some more practice problems for him tomorrow."
"Topics covered today included trigonometry, exponential notation, order of operations and unit conversions. We also covered fractions, decimals, percentages, multiplication with decimals, and graphing lines. I left the student with two study guides and two practice exams. The student also has a large study packet provided by the school."
