Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student wanted to cover questions she had from her AP Chemistry review book on gases. I tried to go into deeper detail than the book as we answered each one, though it mostly boiled down to an understanding of PV=nRT."
"We discussed some papers on HDAC6, its functions, and as a target for treating cancer or neurodegenerative diseases"
"The student and I went over a limiting reactant quiz that he had gotten back as well as going over more parts of limiting reactant questions that we had not covered yet. He did well and was understanding things better."
"Today the student and I worked on thermodynamics, including heat of fusion/evaporation, latent heat, sensible heat, and heat engines. Overall, the student came away with a better understanding of what was going on in her exam since we worked a lot of conceptual problems."
"The student and I discussed the different ways of classifying living organisms. We went in-depth on how the kingdoms differ (unicellular vs. multicellular, eukaryotic vs. prokaryotic, autotrophic vs. heterotrophic) and how we can use information about an organism to classify them. We also talked about viruses and how they are not living organisms but have some characteristics that are similar. He will need to spend more time reviewing all of the kingdoms in order to feel comfortable with the material on the test. We will continue to work on this next session."
"The student and I completed and went over the second half of his biology review. He recalls concepts vaguely and needs to work on re-familiarizing himself with some of the material (especially plants). He did well with organ systems and ecology concepts. Once we finish the biology review tomorrow, we will start to work on his English final review."
