Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This is my first session with the student. She is an eager-to-learn student that wants to understand and have a better grip on Math. Her Math teacher provided her with a packet with practice questions from the various areas of Math that will/may be covered on the exam. We covered number sense, concepts, and applications (such as area formulas, ir/rational numbers, and triangles degrees)."
"Today I taught her how to factor different types of equations. This included factoring regular terms and polynomials. I also taught her about the rules of radicals and how to simplify them."
"The student completed 3 Review Packets: Finding Reciprocals, Geometry: Finding Area, and Number Forms. He began working on the Exponents Review."
"Worked on quadratic equations, lots of FOILing with multiple x's (x^4, x^3.....). Also, we touched on some items with square roots and large roots such as 5th roots, cubed roots. Overall he is really catching onto each subject and lesson that we go over and his mental math skills continue to amaze me."
"Today, the student and I practiced our multiplication facts of 7's. He did spectacular on this. We than spent the session reviewing division problems with 3 digits numbers divided by 1 digit and slowly moved into problems that had remainders."
"The student and I covered rational equations and exponents before continuing a fairly broad review of her course material so far. We also went over a review sheet from the algebra course. She is definitely at a point where she can go straight to geometry."
"Today, the student and I reviewed factoring polynomials, foiling polynomials, finding common factors, and factor trees. We worked specifically on finding the greatest common factor at the beginning of the session. We used factor trees to break down the terms into their simplest forms and then found whatever terms were similar between the two or three terms."
"Covered conditional probability, independent vs. dependent probability, and applied problems. Discussed problem solving strategies and practiced those using samples from the book. Reviewed for an upcoming quiz."
"This was my first session with the student. We started by using some of her little brother's Lego blocks to illustrate different sampling techniques, then discussed some measures of center, and then finally learned about standard variation."
"Today we went over commutation functions and determining the constant to constrain the composition of functions, the probability field, the expectation values, variance, and showing that the variables are not independent."
"We reviewed her assigned homework and then the practice test. We discussed possible hiccups she could run into when taking the test, and reviewed unclear topics so she would be completely prepared."
"We worked the whole time on a project due early next week. The project dealt with the normal distribution and closing stock prices of Google. We analyzed z-scores of various stock prices and the appropriate areas (probabilities)."
