Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed some of the baseball vocabulary and had a few mock interviews. He came up with a list of questions to ask players and coaches. We also practiced general Spanish conversation. For next session, he will be working on learning the vocabulary."
"The student and I looked at ser/estar in the present and past tenses today and learned temporal vocabulary and vocabulary related to food and meals. We simulated conversations about past events, food, needs versus wants. Next session, he would like to review more food vocabulary, telling time, and short conversations about general topics. His practice is to continue working on holding verb conjugations in his mind."
"We continued to learn places in the city by playing a game where we scored who guessed the world based on the picture, Spanish sound, and Spanish world. We reviewed the learned vocabulary by stressing repetition and pronunciation."
"Today, the student needed help studying for a vocabulary test the following day. After having her make flashcards of the all the words she needed to know, I helped her do the online homework assignments pertaining to the newly learned vocabulary words. With continued repetition, she was able to get the hang of recalling and spelling out the words correctly--this is exactly the kind of practice that she should continue to do. We also briefly went over present tense conjugations of -er and -ir verbs, a concept which she found fairly simple and was able to get 80-90% of the questions correct. As long as she continues putting in the time/effort in studying the grammar/vocabulary over and over, she will do very well in the class!"
"We quickly reviewed our foundational skills with a greater focus on using commonly used verbs in original sentences in both written and oral expression. We spent the bulk of the session reading the nonfiction article that had a lot of commonly used verbs and food vocabulary. We practiced pronunciation of words, identifying known words, and using context clues to determine the meaning of new vocabulary. The student is improving her ability to use our verb vocabulary in conversation and recognizing it in text. We still need to develop more reading fluency and her practice was to continue reading the article and identifying words she knows by highlighting."
"Today, the student learned the German vocabularies for clothing items. We connected the new words with colors and other adjectives to practice forming questions out of statements. She also expanded her vocabularies for weather and temperatures and again we connected those new words with the months and seasons for conservation practices. We read the conjugation of the two important verbs, 'to be' and 'to have' aloud, and she wrote those down. The student has a gluten-free diet, so we integrated those words and specific questions to our restaurant vocabularies and practiced those. She continues to make very good progress!"
