"The student says her class is learning to apply the quadratic formula to find roots. She has a final covering the entire year coming up in a few weeks, however, so we briefly touched on a couple of topics she might be seeing (imaginary numbers and conic sections) in case those come up for her next week, then worked on word problems with parabolic functions to review applications of math with quadratics."
"The student and I caught up on her progress in her classes since we last met. She has earned A's on her finals in every class for which I tutor her. We spent our session planning for the end of the year, and completing a presentation that she is giving for her global perspectives class. She was very efficient, and did a good job communicating what she needed to in the presentation."
"In this session, we went over rational expressions, adding/ subtracting/ multiplying/ dividing rational expressions, solving rational equations, and graphing rational functions. The student needed help some with the graphing, but seemed to handle the rest of the work well enough."
"Yesterday, the student and I worked on her outstanding assignments for her AP Calculus Course. We were able to finish two quizzes. The first quiz focused on graphing functions by combining all the techniques learned in this course. These techniques include first derivative, second derivative, vertical asymptotes, and horizontal asymptotes. By getting all these pieces of information, you can graph the function without the use of a calculator. The second quiz covered the optimization. These types of problems are normally word problems. They can be solved by translating the words into equation. The equation then has to be derived in order to find the maximum or minimum. This will give us the value that maximizes or minimizes the equation. Overall, she was very comfortable with these problems. I was there to guide her through the steps when she needed me but she didn't rely heavily on me."
"We covered plotting trigonometric functions, shifting, compression, stretching, magnitude and frequency, and use of technology to check work. The student was attentive and active during our session."
