Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we went over the material that will be on the student's final exam for math class. I instructed her to bring home her math text book each night. We will meet again next week so she can get more review before the final."
"Today, the student and I worked on logarithms, exponential functions, decay/ half-life/ interest, non-linear parallel equations, trigonometry (SOHCAHTOA), etc. He seemed confident in several areas, though I did test competence in almost all the areas on the list and found some areas to review. I closed the session by giving the student forward-thinking goals for next session, including bringing relevant graded materials to review for problem subject matter, and subjects not yet covered."
"We went over the student's paper that he was working on that included a set of data where he ran regression analysis and correlations. We worked together on understanding what the data was telling him and also what the analyses and correlations meant. We cleared up a lot of things about what he was including in his paper."
"Today we continued correcting past tests and going over the review for the final. We worked with operations, compositions, domains, and inverses of functions. We wrote the equation for shifted functions. We did operations with and solved rational functions. We worked with trig and triangle rules to find angles."
"We worked on integer calculations that required following the order of operations. I checked to see if the student knew a system for remembering order of operations. Then we practiced problems from a website that her teacher had provided. At the end we each created some problems of our own. She did very well at solving some problems with many steps."
"We covered intersecting functions and a circle geometry problem similar to the ones that were on the student's practice entrance exam. He needed help with the equilateral triangle within the circle problem, so we went over that in detail. For strategy, I recommended a book to him that he is currently reading; it's great to see that he's gone out of his way to find it."
