"I worked with both students on Pre-Algebra and Geometry. With the first student, we reviewed for his exam. I focused on linear graphs, scientific notation, and powers with base 10. He understands the material, he just needs practice solving problems which will help with prevent small mistakes. With the second student, we practiced geometric proofs. He knows all of the geometric definitions it's just a matter of figuring out when to use them. We went over a lot of practice problems and I provided some tips for when to use each definition. For the first student, I will write up some practice problems for the next session on radicals. For the second student, just a little bit more practice and I think he will be good."
"The student had quite a bit to do today. He had homework on comparing surface areas and volumes of similar solids, using the ratio of similarity; review problems on the whole chapter in preparation for his test, and also a review packet for the test. He completed his regular homework and the textbook problems, and just started the review packet, which was not due tomorrow. He did a great job. For the test he will need to review the formulas for finding surface area and volume for prisms, cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres."
"We had a great session - the student is moving into the geometry of arcs and angles in a circle. He does a great job in this sector and got a 90 on his last quiz! I have noticed a few instances of self-doubt that we are working on. He seems to think that taking a little bit longer to solve a problem makes him less smart than others. I am doing my best to make sure he knows this is not the case. He is very bright kid and just needs to give himself time to show that on paper."
"The student did great this session. We reviewed for her upcoming test and I found that many "light bulbs" were going off. It's always great to hear "ohhh that makes so much sense" from the student. Looking forward to hearing how she did on the test."
"We continued to review for her test (which doubles as her final) and we are both feeling really good about mastery of the concepts. Since her test is soon, it was our last session. I look forward to working with her again in the fall if I am needed!"
"We reviewed the concepts and related formulas for arc length and area of sectors, then we reviewed his homework assignment."
