Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student shows a good understanding of word problems and algebra. Compared to his class, in math he demonstrates that he can learn very quickly. He had a slight struggle with geometry, but by the end of the session I taught him how to solve volumes and areas. I left him a worksheet to determine his strengths and weaknesses in math."
"We covered the mean value theorem, the fundamental theorem of calculus, the chain rule, and the product rule in application with the fundamental theorem of calculus. The student seemed pretty strong with calculus in general but was just in need of clarification for the theorems we covered. Since he was able to understand the theorems fairly quickly, I went over some college calculus concepts in the applications of the chain rule and product rule with the fundamental theorem of calculus."
"The student and I went through his assignments for Monday and made sure that they were completed correctly. We then looked at some of the material from the past couple of lectures and made sure that he understood how the concepts worked. In his class, they are currently graphing radicals and inequalities of radicals. They previously worked on solving equations and inequalities. He seems to have a pretty good grasp of the materials, and my guess is that his test and quiz performance has been less than he hoped for because he has not yet figured out a good preparation strategy for these. I told him that most likely, his grades would improve dramatically if we figured out a method of studying and preparing for these tests that worked for him. We will discuss this in greater detail at the next session. I made him a sheet of things to do before we meet again next week. I asked that he make note of concepts or problems that he would like clarification on so that we can go over that material next week at our next session."
"The student and I went over practice Algebra 2 problems involving solving exponential equations, as preparation for an upcoming quiz in Algebra 2. He was very receptive, and by the end of the session, he was able to solve the problems correctly."
"The student and I worked more on intersecting lines and angles. Although she knows the vocabulary, she needs to work on applying that to solve the problems. We worked on this today, and she seemed much more confident by the end of the session. We will continue to work on this."
"The student and I covered most of the first page of the notes. He should review how to input data into the calculator using the lists. I would recommend practicing more problems identifying roots (factoring equations with large exponents). When we meet again before his exam, this will be something that we heavily go over. Overall, he is a hard worker, and he is starting to grasp the concepts of the material. We will do the second page of practice problems the next time we meet! I look forward to seeing him again!"
