Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student worked through an online practice test. He worked quietly this session. One thing we discussed this session was how to solve problems where he was required to determine the value of unknown consecutive integers."
"We covered proportions, similar shapes, and percents as a follow-up to our last session. We used practice questions for the SAT and ACT. Once the student focused, she did well."
"The student understands how to apply the formulas and get the right answers, so we worked on him explaining the answer to better understand the material. We went over basic vocabulary and he completed the homework problems he was assigned. He was able to complete his homework assignment with little help. I think going over basic information again and connecting it with what they are learning will help. Overall he is very bright and did very well."
"Today we worked entirely on solving inequalities in order to prepare for the student's test on this subject on Tuesday. First, we went over the last test he took the previous week. Next, we went over some key concepts and did some practice problems on one-step inequalities. Then, we moved up to two-step inequalities. He was mostly struggling with positive vs. negative numbers and remembering to write down the correct sign. Lastly, we completed a ton of practice problems from a packet his teacher gave him."
"The student and I covered two topics during our tutoring session: double replacement reactions in chemistry and completing the squares in algebra 2. He showed proficiency over double replacement reactions, and was able to adapt his knowledge to various chemical compounds and reaction archetypes. During the last 30 minutes we covered the "completing the squares" method of solving quadratics in algebra 2. Since we had previously covered the quadratic formula, he had some confusion as to why this method is relevant (used to convert quadratic form into a form for parabolas) and was having difficulties understanding and applying the concept to his worksheet. On Tuesday, we will go over this topic in more detail."
"During this session we went over questions I made up as a review of past materials. Overall this session went well. The student had forgotten some concepts which she needs to keep refreshing, but she corrected some of the errors she's made in the past."
