Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued our review of quadratics by converting equations into points, points to graphs, and reversing the process. I'm waiting to see the student's pop quiz so we can go over it. She definitely started to feel more confident by the end of the session. I continue to encourage her to write *everything* down. It's the best way to identify patterns!"
"The student and I worked on practice problems and examples on his current coursework which is on quadratics. He seems to have a good understanding of how each step works, but needed help understanding the goal of each problem. I suspect that learning the purpose and flow of factoring quadratics will come to him eventually, once he has had enough practice with different types of problems. I encouraged him to always check his work."
"The student did pretty well! We covered a few different methods in factoring, including finding the greatest common factor and applying the distributive properties methods, and then factoring trinomials. She also seemed to have improved in her understanding of addition and subtraction involving negatives."
"The student and I did a chapter review on point slope, slope, graphing and finding equations of lines, and standard form. She was correct in her thought process on all the problems, and I was able to help her and explain whatever she had questions with."
"I continued working with the student on practice problems in preparation for her test retake, which she will schedule next week. This chapter focuses primarily on factoring. We spent time reviewing the steps to factor a problem when the leading coefficient is not = 1, multiplication of binomial x trinomial vertically, and how to solve a trinomial by factoring."
"Today we focused on quadratic formulas. The student needs practice with determining how parabolas change graphically based on changes in the equation (for example, vertical stretches/ shrinks and translations). Since her test in this material is on Friday, I will have extra homework practice prepared for her on Wednesday."
