Tutoring review by Elizabeth in Washington, PA
The student and I worked on fractions today. We went over his CBA math review for school. I had him explain to me how he determined his answers. I tried to have him solve the problems in at least 2 ways: with pictures/graphs and equations. After we finished the review, I introduced him to a game on the iPad to help him with improving his mental computations using fractions. The game gets more difficult as you progress through the levels. He was able to get through most levels with little assistance from me. I asked him to keep practicing with the game and introduce the game to his mother for homework.

We covered subtracting mixed and like fractions. We started with a warm-up of multiplication tables, then did a review of the previous weeks session on GCF and LCF. I taught the student some tricks when multiplying, and we talked about not procrastinating with homework. I left the student seven of the harder problems to work on over the week.

Tutoring review by Hannah in Washington, PA
In today's session, the student had to review for both a quiz in chemistry and a test in algebra. We started with chemistry review on types of matter. He answered questions similar to the ones he worked on yesterday. He did much better with this material today, but I still recommend that he review this tomorrow morning. For algebra, the student completed the study guide issued by his teacher. He did very well with this review sheet, but I did notice that he made a few small mistakes that will cause him to lose points on the test. We went over these problems again and he did much better. We can focus on this more in our coming math sessions.

Tutoring review by Joseph in Washington, PA
The concepts covered today were converting fractions to decimal places using a denominator with a multiple of ten and converting fractions to percentages using a denominator of 100. I discussed the subject in the manner he was comfortable with and the way his teacher did it in class. He understands how to execute the material now, and when he does his homework, it will solidify it for him.
