Tutoring review by Gabriela in Niagara Falls International Airport, NY
Today, the student and I started going over a packet to review for her end of course exam that is coming up soon. The session was mostly review, and we went over things like complex and real numbers, dividing polynomials, and changing/reducing exponential expressions. Most of the material we saw today was from earlier in the year, so I advised the student that she should also review her old notes. After some review, she seemed to grasp the concepts once again.

Tutoring review by Joyce in Niagara Falls International Airport, NY
Today we went over logarithmic functions. Specifically we covered log properties, logarithmic equations, and how to solve a system of equations with logarithmic functions. We also covered the cardiovascular system, including the flow of blood from the pulmonary system to the systemic system, and we covered all of the specific values and pumps found in the four chambers of the heart. We also covered pedigree charts and how to read them. Today the student's attitude was pleasant as usual. She followed my advice and my tips and I definitely am seeing progress in her work. I left her with some extra practice problems that I will review tomorrow.

The student had some trouble with vector analysis. We spent the session going through various examples and approaches. By the end, she was able to solve problems, though sometimes needed some guidance. She doesn't have a background in trigonometry, but that shouldn't be a problem for her class.

Tutoring review by Christine in Niagara Falls International Airport, NY
We went over line slopes and slope-intercept equations of lines; we briefly touched on point-slope equations. As always, I'm impressed with the student's attitude and willingness to work hard. He's bright and seems to be used to getting the hang of things quickly. I'm trying to make a point of talking up the "play around with it until you figure it out" approach to math; I feel that in the long run it's more productive to try a few approaches to the problem before figuring out the right one than it is to always use the right one the first time out. We learn at least as much from our failures as from our successes.

Tutoring review by Winnie in Niagara Falls International Airport, NY
We covered math concepts for the student's upcoming assessment exam. We reviewed mean, median, mode, surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders, Pythagorean Theorem, percents, fractions, and complex word problems. We talked about strategies for multiple choice exams, which included reading the whole problem and fully understanding the questions. We also discussed eliminating answers that did not make sense. The student was pumped for our session!
