Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today focused on literary analysis and French immersion through music. I hope to continue to improve the student's essays in terms of fleshing out content now that he has a more efficient writing style."
"The student and I reviewed her 5 paragraph essay. She has a little left to write, which she will finish in class tomorrow."
"We started the session by reviewing the process that we followed last session to create a solid outline that stayed focused and directly connected to the thesis. Then, we reviewed the draft he had thus far and incorporated some of the corrections/comments that his peer had given him in class. We talked about why those corrections were necessary and then also reviewed comma usage. I then coached him through completing the final draft of his essay, which still lacked a final body paragraph and a typed conclusion. We also determined that his paper probably needed more support from the text, so we reviewed how to choose good quotes and then selected them. Finally, we worked on a strong conclusion. I reviewed the parts of a good conclusion and the reasoning for having them, and then I coached him through it. We are reviewing his vocabulary so that he has more words to use at his disposal to finish his thoughts with sophisticated language. We also need to work on strategies to get him to think through mind blocks so that he does not get lost in his thought and veer from the thesis and main points of his writing. We will focus on these strategies in the next session. I will also introduce him to some websites to increase his word power."
