Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First, we reviewed the items she missed on the prep book homework. She'd missed only a few, but we went over those, as she was unclear about why the correct answers were correct for those entries. Next, we addressed her revised essay. We worked our way through, point-by-point, about what was needed to really improve the paper. After that, I had her do some editing exercises and then do some reading exercises in the practice test book. She missed very few. For homework she is to again revise the essay, this time accounting for all the written comments I'd given, plus the notes she'd collected during our review. She'll email it to me while she's away."
"We finished the practice Critical Reading section together and reviewed all the answers. This session was focused more on vocabulary: we added to the running vocabulary list as well as reviewed all the words on it that we had come across in practice questions. We also reviewed prefixes, roots, and suffixes of words as a method to break down unfamiliar words and put that technique into practice on a Critical Writing practice section. We also began reviewing such common writing and grammar themes including: parallel syntax, subject-verb agreement, and verb tense agreement so as to help differentiate the different types of questions contained within the writing section."
"We focused on the Writing Section of the PSAT. The student is doing better with identifying grammatical issues and correcting sentences."
