Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we walked through some of the student's past webwork problems. The material was focused on the application of shell and disc methods, hyperbolic trig functions, u-substitution, calculus modeling problems, and Hooke's law. We touched on arc length, rotational surface area. She is doing well with the material. Proficiency with centroids is a big win! All that she needs to do now is practice, practice, practice!"
"Met with the student today and worked on his study guide on polar and Cartesian coordinates. What a joy to work with the student! This is a student I can confidently say he has his head on the shoulders, has a great thought process, and I have no doubt in his ability to reach and break records of achievements."
"The student and I discussed some homework problems he had over related rates. He seemed to grasp the concepts well but because of the level of material, some of the problems were challenging for him to set up."
"The student and I worked mostly on review of the most recent topics. We worked on integration by parts, integrating inverse trig functions, other creative ways of rearranging functions to take the integral, and then we did practice AP problems. We reviewed the volume of solids rotated on the x- or y-axes, looking at functions and their graphs to analyze first and second derivatives, and the relationship between position, velocity and acceleration."
"Today, the student and I went over her pretest. She had attempted it prior to our session and we were able to go through all of the problems. She struggled a little bit with the concept of antiderivatives and min/max problems. We discussed reviewing those concepts further in tomorrow's session. I advised her to memorize different key topics along the way as well."
"We focused this session on reviewing the student's past exams. In particular, we worked on problems dealing with limits and continuity, calculating a derivative via limits, using the chain rule to calculate derivatives, implicit differentiation, and touching on some word problems dealing with rates. Particular emphasis was placed on showing all of his work when going through these problems, since that was the cause of a fair number of deductions on his exams. He pretty clearly understands most of the material and so if we focus on developing better study habits he should be well prepared for his upcoming exams."
